Inside Pergola’s urban winter paradise

Pergola Paddington Central has had a seasonal makeover – we step inside to find out what’s new

Think rooftop bars and street food are just for summer? Think again! Pergola Paddington Central has had a cosy makeover, so we can continue sipping on rosé and snaffling tacos right up until Christmas.

“We’ve totally winterised the site with a new roof on the top deck,” says Pergola founder Charlie. “We’ve ensured it’s cosy, warm, covered and fully functioning for the winter weather ahead.”

As well as a roof, Charlie and team have added walls and heating, so there’s no chance of the winter chill seeping in. But they’ve managed to retain that urban garden vibe, with ivy covering the ceilings and pillars, while fairy lights lend the space a Christmassy feel.

The venue is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner and drinks. For return visitors, there are some exciting new dishes to sample.

“As always, we want to keep things interesting, so we’ve brought in two new restaurants, Tonkotsu and Made of Dough, to spice things up a bit for the winter season, as well as hanging on to some favourites, Patty and Bun and DF/Mexico,” says Charlie. “Christmassy food doesn’t have to be about dry turkey and cranberry sauce! We wanted to offer something delicious, warming but exciting too.”

That’s not all that’s new – a selection of Christmassy drinks will put you in the festive spirit. As well as mulled wine and hot spiced plum cider, Pergola have designed a new cocktail, Good Tidings, made with vodka, cranberry and spices. There is also a new second bar to grab those seasonal drinks from, and the option to book a space of your own for up to 199 people – perfect for Christmas parties.
