Department of Coffee and Social Affairs
The first Department of Coffee and Social Affairs opened in London’s iconic Leather Lane Market in late 2010 and, as they've grown, they quickly understood that while a good shop and quality coffee were crucial, the key ingredient to success was their people.
Serving single-origin coffee requires a sourcing chain that extends from the farm and workers, to picking and packaging, screening and grading, brokerage, shipping, roasting and – finally – coffee making. By working closely with its quality suppliers, the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs presents seriously good coffee served by staff who give a bean.
The enthusiasm, knowledge and professionalism each member of their staff brings, helps define and differentiate them as people increasingly understand the pleasure derived from a ‘proper’ cup of coffee, rather than, well, that other stuff.
