Six of the best... healthy lunches

"What's for lunch?" The most frequently used words in any office... And at Paddington Central, a lunch that is both nourishing and healthy is taken to a whole new level thanks to some of London's most innovative and delicious restaurants and takeout menus. Here are just six of our favourites:


Lords of Poké
2 Kingdom Street, Paddington Central W2 6BD

If you’re looking for something delicious and healthy and warm, Lords of Poké have just recently added hot food to their excellent range. Huli Huli Chicken has Hawaiian-style sweet soy chicken on rice with edamame, charred broccoli salad, pineapple, mouli and toasted sesame. Also, try the Green Detox smoothie. They’re made fresh to order and contain a delicious blend of banana, cucumber, avocado, apple, spinach and coconut water.


Coco di Mama
2 Kingdom Street, Paddington Central 
W2 6BD

The health benefits of omega-3 has been widely reported and we’re encouraged to eat fish high in DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids at least a couple of times a week. Thankfully, Coco di Mama make this an entirely pleasurable experience with their Super Salmon Omega-3 Salad: peppered and hot-smoked salmon, free-range egg, green beans, fire-roasted peppers and potatoes. Delicious and less than 400 calories per serving.

Zizzi have created a whole menu category out of ‘600 calories or less’ dishes. And what’s more, they all sound amazing. Somehow they’ve managed to squeeze a slow-roasted lamb shank served with creamy riserva mash, garlic sautéed broccoli, cavolo nero and a chianti and rosemary sauce into just 600 calories. There’s even a range of skinny pizzas­ – on a wholemeal, white and spelt base – that come with a baby gem and caesar dressing side salad for a mere 550 calories. Amazing.


Beany Green
Unit 6C, Sheldon Square, Paddington Central W2 6EZ

You’re spoilt for choice at Beany Green when it comes to healthy eating. If you’re there for brunch – and if you aren’t, you really should – try their delicious Healthy Start dish: celeriac toast with avocado, poached eggs, broccoli and grilled tomatoes. It’s already veggie, dairy free and gluten free but if you want it to be vegan friendly, just ask them to swap out the poached eggs for scrambled tofu. For lunch, we can’t get enough of the Asian chicken salad with chicken breast, wombok, red cabbage, candied chilli, cashews and a zingy nuoc cham dressing.

Tossed are all about following a balanced diet that includes lots of fresh vegetables, lean protein and low GI carbs. So much so that you can plug any of their dishes into their website and it will give you a detailed nutritional breakdown, including carbs, salt, sugar, saturated fat, protein and fibre. We love their Spicy Superveg protein bowl: pick a protein (chicken, halloumi or falafel) and enjoy with smashed avocado, piri piri sauce, roasted sweet potato, carrot, mango, radish, mint, supergrains and rainbow slaw.

At first glance, nightowl-loving HUCKSTER might not be the most obvious choice for those seeking something healthy and nutritious, but Wonton Willy does indeed tick all of those boxes. Vegan broth – freshly prepared each day – with shitake mushrooms, broccoli, tofu and fresh coriander makes for an extremely satisfying and warming lunch. You could even add vegan noodles for an extra 75p and still feel pretty virtuous.
